AMPLIFIER began in 2013 as a small zine focused on promoting underground culture in Greensboro, North Carolina by writing small features on artists, musicians, businesses and other talent. Starting out at 25-pages, the zine drastically grew over the year with the help of photographers, writers and designers—all of whom not only have a love for their craft but saw the importance of increasing the awareness of Greensboro’s talent.
In 2014, AMPLIFIER expanded to the major cities in North Carolina including Charlotte, Raleigh, Wilmington and Boone. By that point, the publication outgrew the term “zine” as it increased its volume and branded a professional aesthetic.
Throughout the two and a half years as a publication, AMPLIFIER has been a tastemaker in this area by booking/promoting well-attended events, featuring up-and-coming artists and businesses and providing musicians an outlet to release their music. In December of 2015, AMPLIFIER released its last issue and announced a switch to becoming a digital publication.
Starting in 2016, AMPLIFIER will begin to expand its reach to various locations across the United States in order to continue supporting underground talent in need of a voice.
